Albuquerque, NM - Today, U.S. Senate Candidate Nella Domenici announced the “Women for Nella Coalition,” a bipartisan group. Nella launched this initiative because women’s issues have been a priority her entire life.
The first meeting will be Tuesday, July 30th, at 9:00 a.m. at the Frontier Restaurant, 2400 Central Avenue S.E. Albuquerque. Women from all walks of life are welcome.
Nella is forming and leading this coalition to demand more and deliver more for families and communities.
“Women make most of the important decisions affecting families,” said Nella Domenici. “For example, we need to demand more from our education and health care systems. As Senator I intend to deliver more.”
Thelma Domenici is the honorary chair of the Coalition. The founding co-chairs include Michelle Coons (Albuquerque), Nancy Abruzzo (Albuquerque), Amy Orlando (Las Cruces), and Krista McWilliams (Farmington) are the founding co-chairs. Marron Lee will serve as the Executive Director.
Nella is forming this coalition because “all New Mexicans are struggling to cope with the soaring cost of living caused by Heinrich’s out-of-control deficit spending and unrealistic energy policies. The highest inflation in 40 years, leaves families with the “do-without or buy-less ultimatum. Women are often the ones figuring out how to make ends meet,” according to Domenici.
Thelma Domenici said, “As a 93-year-old, I know women’s intergenerational responsibilities for aging parents, spouses, children and grandchildren can often seem overwhelming.”
Michelle Coons joined the coalition because “We all know the fear caused by rampant crime, violent gangs, and cartels in our cities but it is we mothers who feel the apprehension of sending the kids off to school or the park to play and worrying if they will return safe.”
Nancy Abruzzo said, “We all know that the issues that matter to men, matter to women as well—crime, taxes, less governmental interference. Nella will bring a fresh and female perspective on issues that singularly affect women. Nella understands the health risks, the safety issues, economic inequities and other unique worries that women face."
Amy Orlando joined the coalition “because issues regarding domestic violence around the state and missing and murdered indigenous women are ignored. That needs to change.”
Krista McWilliams noted that “New Mexico is an energy producing state and women and all New Mexicans should demand policies that promote the production of all kinds of energy.”
Nella said “Too many women’s issues do not get enough attention. For example, behavioral health issues unique to women such as postpartum depression are not sufficiently understood and studied. Another example, heart attacks, the number one killer of women, are often misdiagnosed because the symptoms for women are often different from men.”
Marron Lee, Executive Director for Women for Nella Coalition, said “Nella will work to develop innovative and responsive solutions for a wide range of issues. This coalition will harness the perspectives of New Mexican women and help lay the groundwork for legislation Nella will champion when New Mexicans send her to Washington.”
